| Day #26As soon as she had given the order, men and women in the trusted Starfleet uniform and also in the new uniform, depicting permanent Callisto crew, worked like madness to get the engines and power cores up and running. It didn't take them long to initiate the anti-matter flow, slowly but steadily entering the reaction chamber which caused the primary antimatter conduits to start pulsating. The typical sound of a Starfleet issue warp core sounded good to her, though she was no engineering with the experience to make that judgment.
Loud applauding and cheering indicated that the first attempt to get the cores and engines up and running was a success. Calyssa received felicitations of several members of the Callisto senior staff that were present but also from several key officers that were part of the Luna development project, including Commander Ghsalt. With a wide smile, she accepted their wishes of good fortune.
"Captain do you want to power the shield generators and phaser relays?" Lieutenant Hafwan was still working hard to get her brand new engine up to the specs she'd come to expect from Starfleet. Apparently she had decided to celebrate afterwards.
"Affirmative!" Calyssa shouted back so that the engineer who was still standing on the upper level could hear her. "The sooner we get systems powered up, the sooner we can head out!" She said. "Make sensor arrays, main and nagivational deflectors your priority, Lieutenant!" Calyssa said.
"Captain..." Admiral West snr. had found a way to enter engineering without getting noticed. A trait that he was well known for, realizing that in the years that she had known him, that he managed to pull something off like that quite often. "Congratulations on this new milestone. You are well away to your launch." Admiral West's grey mustache shone in the light coming from the ceiling. "Walk with me, Captain!"
Calyssa smiled and nodded in reply and followed the Admiral out of engineering, crossing her arms behind her back as soon as the doors closed behind her, following the slow pace that the Admiral kept.
"Now that this bridge has been crossed, it is time for us to get this ship launched, Calyssa!" Admiral West said all of a sudden, refraining from engaging in small talk.
"I couldn't agree more!" She smiled, eyeing the Admiral with her light blue eyes. "I've been itching to test her in deep space. I already was impressed by the way the Rhea impressed my back then but if Starfleet has kept improving, I wonder how she flies now." She added cheerfully.
"I am sure you are..." Admiral West sighed, obviously he was bothered by something and somehow Calyssa felt that it wasn't very good news.
"But I bet you didn't came here just to visit me." Calyssa tuned her enthusiasm down.
"You know me too well, Calyssa. I'll get right to it..." He said, sighing again as he took a right turn at the next intersection. "Chances are... that the Chozo project will be cancelled soon."
"Cancelled?" The news came somewhat as a bombshell and it was rather unexpected. It seemed that Starfleet had already invested so much effort and resources in the project that it sounded illogical, to use a Vulcan term, to stop now. "May I ask what the reason is why they might consider to pull the plug?"
"It seems that the higher ups in Starfleet find it more useful and tactical sound to invest resources and efforts in the Gamma Quadrant to counter the current Dominion threat. With the Gamma Quadrant cut off due to the closed wormhole, Starfleet is afraid that the current presence on the other side of the wormhole is endangered." He offered her a synopsis of the elaborate report he received this morning.
"With all due respect, Admiral..." Calyssa prepared to make a defense statement against it.
"Save your breath, Calyssa, I am on your side." He smiled again. "In order to convince Starfleet that the Chozo project is far from a waste, we need to present them with promissing results.
"And Daniel needs the Callisto back in action ASAP!" Calyssa filled in his blanks.
"Exactly!" West smiled. "When do you think you have the ship ready for launch?"
"Realistic or idealistic prognosis?" Calyssa chuckled. "I can have her up and running in three days, with the help of Ghsalt and his team.
"Take all the resources you need. I want her launched then in 72 hours from now!" Admiral West said, increasins his pace to the nearest turbolift.
"Consider it done!" She smiled, tapping her commbadge to inform her crew of the discussion she just had.

Aelyn to senior staff and Commander Ghsalt, report to the briefing lounge at once!
